How we approach tooth removal
If a tooth has been broken or damaged by decay, we will usually try to fix your tooth first, using a filling, crown or other dental treatment. But when there’s too much damage for the tooth to be repaired, usually from trauma or decay, the tooth may need to be removed from its socket in the bone.
Tooth removal may be required if you have:

crowded teeth

a broken tooth

a deep infection in a tooth

risk of infection

severe gum disease
-
issues with a wisdom tooth.
WISDOM TEETH REMOVAL
Wisdom teeth (third molars) can cause problems and pain if they are impacted. If you're suffering from painful or problem wisdom teeth, book an appointment with us, to assess your oral health and determine the best treatment for you. If your jaws have insufficient room for the wisdom teeth to grow or erupt into a position that allows them to be functional teeth, it may be advisable to remove your wisdom teeth. In some cases, you may need to have your teeth removed by an oral surgeon.
Removing wisdom teeth can help to prevent or eliminate problems such as:

infections of the gum around the teeth

decay adjacent functioning teeth

gum disease around the molar teeth

a thorough evaluation and x-ray is necessary before wisdom teeth removal to determine the best removal plan.
What to expect

ASSESS YOUR INDIVIDUAL REQUIREMENTS
Your dentist will assess whether your tooth can be removed at Manning Dental, or whether you require a referral to an oral surgeon for a more complex procedure.

NUMB THE LOCAL AREA
If you're having you're tooth removed at Manning Dental, your dentist will first give you an injection of a local anesthetic to numb the area where the tooth will be removed.

REMOVE YOUR TOOTH
Your dentist will use instruments to remove your tooth from its socket.

PROVIDE AFTERCARE
We'll provide you with instructions for how best to care for the area where your tooth has been removed from and explain to you any symptoms you may experience.
